About four years ago, I came to Elon's campus for the second time. I had already submitted my deposit and knew this was the place where I was meant to spend my college career. I could not have known I would grow and learn and change as much as I have. I could not have known how many special people I would meet and the relationships I would build.
In 73 days I will walk across the stage and leave those people behind. And somehow I will carry the torch of the rising phoenix; I will make my alma mater proud.
When I think about my time at Elon and the few days I have left, tears spring to my eyes. Those tears reflect some of the fear and uncertainty that comes with any college graduation. But they are also a product of the sadness I feel when I think of how I will drive away from here, with the oaks behind me and the rest of my life in front of me.
This is the place where my life truly began -- where I became the person I am today. Under these oaks, I learned how to be a professional communicator. In those pavilions, I learned to be a scholar. On those uneven brick pathways I navigated the challenges and triumphs of young adulthood.
Elon is a place I call home -- not just because it is comfy and familiar and warm, but also because ,if its walls could talk, they would tell the story of how I got here.
As a soon-to-be alumna, I am part of the legacy that this institution will continue to build. At the same time, Elon is part of the fabric I am made of. I guess all I can say is thank you.
