The Birth of the Blog
Like many of my fellow millennials, I consume a lot of online content. There’s Twitter, Facebook, Buzzfeed, and a long list of random sites I find along the way. Between the status updates and live tweeting, I often stumble upon a shared article or recommended link about millenials.
Far too often for my liking, these posts are by people my parents’ age, talking about our generation as though we’re not in the room. They often discuss the things we don’t understand, don’t know how to do, or don’t think about. Essentially, they compare us to themselves at our age and make their generation out to seem superior.
About half of the other content I read about millenials is written by someone in our generation in response to the generalizations made by those judgmental middle-agers, and denies everything they say. That doesn’t work for me either.
So I decided to start creating some content myself. I don’t want anyone not in my generation speaking for my generation. I also don’t want to shut out all the lessons we could learn from the generation above us. We have officially outgrown the kids’ table, so we need to join the conversation instead of being excluded and tuning it out.
The years of our lives between 19 and 30 are a time of rapid change. It’s the time when most of us will enter the workforce, travel if we’re lucky, get married if we’re ready and hopefully laugh along the way.
This is the space where I plan to record my findings – and blunders – during this part of my life. Rather than wagging my finger at 20-somethings when I’m 45, I want to share with my peers the little everyday wisdoms I’m learning as I go along.
So here’s to all my twenty-something readers. This one’s for you.
