I’ve been pretty quite on social media for the last couple of months. I haven’t posted much, I haven’t blogged at all, but I’ve been there, reading and scrolling and double-tapping like normal. I’ve seen the announcements about jobs and graduate school acceptances and I’ve smiled – when those around me are doing well, it feels like I am, too.
The reasons for my social media silence are many – too much information for this venue. But I’ve decided to break that silence. Not because I could use the likes on IG (which I could) or because I need to up my traffic on my blog (which I do), but because I’ve accomplished nearly everything I set out to accomplish this semester. Let’s look back:
I share this with you not only because I am so proud of what I have accomplished, but because I found this quote a few months ago and it finally makes sense:
Work hard in silence. Let your success be your noise.
For years, my professors have been confused at how invested I have been in work for my sorority. My sisters have been in awe of the work I’ve put into my thesis. My parents have told me to tone down my involvement because they were worried I’d lose steam and be burned out my the end of my college career.
If I’m being honest, I sometimes asked myself those same questions – but the answer always followed soon after: these are the things I love to do. I am passionate about writing AND scholarship AND this sisterhood that is so dear to my heart. And now, just a few weeks away from the end of my road here at Elon, I have a lot to show for every late night, early morning, meltdown and moment of panic.
I worked hard in silence. Here’s my noise.
